Shelly Gensmer-Cleek is an accomplished compliance and legal executive in the ARM and financial services industry. She currently serves as Chief Compliance Officer at Unifund and works independently as a contract/fractional compliance consultant focusing on mentorship of rising stars seeking a compliance leadership role, or advising organizations on building cost-efficient, regulation-forward compliance frameworks.

Shelly’s expertise is grounded in more than 20 years focusing on navigation of complex regulatory matters, understanding data privacy and cybersecurity laws, and translating legal obligations into practical, scalable processes.

When she is not breaking down laws and regulations, Shelly serves as Vice President of the Board of Directors for the Alabama Coastal Foundation. Here, she aligns her professional leadership with a strong passion for aquatic animal awareness and conservation (this is a fancy way of saying she helps save sea turtles) as well as environmental stewardship.
