Former President of Ally Bank
Diane Morais recently retired after a distinguished career in financial services, with a wealth of experience in driving business growth and transformation. Morais most recently served as the President of Ally Bank, a $180+ Bn digital financial institution, overseeing the Consumer and Commercial Banking Division. In this role, she led all consumer facing businesses, comprising $50Bn in assets, $2+ Bn in annual revenue, $144+ Bn in deposits, and 3,500 employees. She also had responsibility for Ally’s Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) team, driving significant strategic relationships in Utah and beyond. Morais has deep experience in driving strategy, digital transformation, technology and cyber, brand and customer loyalty, regulatory relations, risk management and establishing and cultivating corporate culture.
Under Morais’ leadership, Ally Bank achieved double digit retail deposit growth each year since 2009,with more than $144 Bn in deposits and 1.5MM customers. She drove the strategy and execution of expansion into additional consumer, digital first businesses through M&A and strategic partnerships, including Investing, Home Loans, and Credit Cards. Ally received numerous third party accolades, including being named Money Magazine’s “Best Online Bank” 8 out of 10 years, and “Best Internet Bank” by Kiplinger’s. Morais also served as a member of Ally’s core Initial Public Offering Road Show, culminating in a successful IPO in 2014.
Prior to Ally, Morais spent twelve years at Bank of America, leading the deposit and debit business, credit card marketing, and served as the customer experience executive for the firm. Morais also spent nine years at Citibank’s credit card division in a variety of marketing, risk, and finance roles.
An accomplished leader in the Charlotte business community, Morais received the ‘2024 Lifetime Achievement Award’ by the Charlotte Business Journal, was recognized by Queens University as the 2022 Charlotte Businesswoman of the Year, and was named to American Banker Magazine’s ’25 Most Powerful Women in Banking’ for nine consecutive years. She serves on the Boards of Junior Achievement, the YMCA of Greater Charlotte, and Charlotte Center City Partners. Morais is a native of Pittsburgh, PA, and graduated from Penn State University.
